The first round games of the Section 8A playoffs for both Laker soccer teams have been set Wednesday after QRF seeding was completed.

The Laker girls (10-6) are the No. 3 seed in the north subsection and will host No. 6 Alexandria (3-13) at Rotary Soccer Park Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

Goal scoring has been an issue with Alex. The Cards have lost eight straight games and have been shutout in the last four and five of the last six.

The Lakers enter the contest 5-5 in their last 10 games.

DL defeated the Cardinals at home in the second game of the season 3-2 both teams have recent playoff history against each other.

Alexandria knocked the Lakers out of the second round last year 3-2 in a shootout at home. DL won in a shootout at home in 2014 after 100-minutes of scoreless regulation play and overtime.

The DL boys (6-8-1) are seeded fifth and travel to Fergus Falls (6-9) to face the No. 4 Otters Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

The two teams met in the season opener with Fergus Falls winning at Otter Stadium 3-2 in overtime. That game was meaningful in that the teams were separated by one-tenth of a point in QRF rating and DL was rated No. 72 to the Otters Nol 73 in QRF rankings.

The similarity in numbers triggerd a tiebreaker scenario where the Otters' victory in game one was a deciding factor in playoff home field.

Fergus falls is 2-8 in their last 10 games. DL in near .500 at 4-5-1.

The two teams have not met in the postseason since 2013, a 3-0 home victory for Detroit Lakes.
