Coach Mike Denardo honored by DLYHA

Youth hockey coach Mike Denardo was honored Friday night after the varsity hockey game for more than 35 years of service.

Denardo’s coaching career spans from 1982 to 2017. He has coached youth teams in 15 regional tournaments and six state tournaments, including two state runners-up finishes in 1992 with Coon Rapids and 1996 with Blaine.

Denardo has coached numerous Division I hockey players and pros Matt Hendricks, Paul Martin, Nate Prosser and Brandon Bochenski.

Mike came to Detroit Lakes in 2010 and has coached A levels in Squirts, PeeWees and Bantams.

The Detroit Lakes Youth Hockey Association and players from both the varsity team and Bantam A squad presented Denardo with a commemorative plaque for countless hours of dedication to the hockey programs with best wishes on his retirement.

The plaque was presented by Denardo’s grandsons Dominick and Eli Denardo.
