Spuds turn Lakers over to win big

The Moorhead Spuds forced 25 first half turnovers and only allowed the Lakers 13 points in a dominating 75-42 victory over Detroit Lakes in non-conference girls basketball at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium Tuesday night.

Ellie Lunde had DL’s first two field goals of the game and a Lauren Tschider three-pointer gave the Lakers a 7-6 lead, but Rylie Polomny scored for Moorhead and the Spuds would not relinquish the lead again.

Moorhead went on a 14-0 run to lead 20-7 on a Sam Haiby basket and outscored DL from that point 24-6 to the halftime horn.

Polomny had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Haiby added a dozen points and eight assists. Samantha Zimmerman scored 13.

Lunde played well in both halves and led the Lakers with 16 points. Bree Price scored a dozen.

Moorhead improved to 14-8. DL fell to 4-18 overall and will finish the regular season with four consecutive Mid-State Conference opponents beginning at first place Pequot Lakes (13-9, 7-1) Thursday, Feb. 15. DL is 1-5 in fifth place.
