Two deputies on leave following officer-involved shooting
SABIN, MINN.—Two Clay County Sheriff's deputies are on paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting here.
Lt. Mark Empting said the deputies were dispatched to a residence in south Sabin around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, on a report of a suicidal man with a knife.
They encountered the man upon arrival at the residence near 80th Ave. S., and a deputy fired his weapon at him, Empting said.
The man was first taken to a local hospital, then to the Clay County Jail pending charges.
Empting would neither confirm whether the man was struck by gunfire, nor whether the man was treated for a gunshot wound.
"He was treated and released," Empting said. "I'm not going into why."
He also said the deputies' names won't be released at this time, but placing them on paid leave is standard procedure in cases like this.
The Moorhead, Dilworth and Glyndon Police Departments, along with the Minnesota State Patrol, responded to the incident.
The case is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Moorhead Police.
