DL police officer charged after barroom incident

Longtime Detroit Lakes Police Sgt. Robert Strand, 40, has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, brawling or fighting—after an off-duty run-in with a man at a Detroit Lakes bar.

The man, Blake Sundvor, 35, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District court with exactly the same thing.

Strand was placed on paid administrative leave early last month after allegedly punching Sundvor, a man he's arrested a couple times in the past.

Neither misdemeanor criminal citation was electronically available at the courthouse Monday. A court administration employee said there was little to no information in the citation providing details about the incident between the two men.

Sundvor (also known as Blake Mastin) has publicly alleged he was punched by Strand at the Hub 41 restaurant in Detroit Lakes on Dec. 23 when Strand was off duty. The criminal investigation was led by Clay County for routine conflict of interest reasons.

Sundvor has been convicted of several scams in Becker County and also duped a Twin Cities TV station into doing a story on him after he falsely claimed to be the one who figured out how to cap the massive 2010 BP spill on the gulf coast.
